Askar Batyrbayev – NECG Affiliate

Askar Batyrbayev is an accomplished professional with more than 15 years of experience in the nuclear industry and expertise in commercial activities and logistics of the uranium market. Mr. Batyrbayev previously worked in the largest uranium producer in the world, Kazatomprom, starting in 2006 as a marketing manager in Appak LLP, a joint venture of NAC Kazatomprom JSC and two Japanese corporations.

In 2021, he became Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of the Kazatomprom group. As CCO, Mr. Batyrbayev was responsible for the commercial operations and logistics of the company, accountable for 24% of the world’s uranium production. He spearheaded the development and execution of the company’s sales and marketing strategy, coordinated trading activity, and worked closely with key stakeholders to achieve strategic initiatives and maximize economic value added.

During his career in the nuclear industry, Mr. Batyrbayev successfully developed an alternative Trans-Caspian route for the export of uranium from Kazakhstan; took an active role in the IPO of the company, achieved record uranium sales volume and operated the most extensive portfolio in the uranium market – more than 1.5 billion USD and more than 16 thousand tons of uranium annually.

Mr. Batyrbayev holds a Master’s degree in Physics and Executive MBA from Nazarbayev University.
